Day Fifteen: September 11th: The Last Full Day

Off To Pastizzerias

While we were on the island, Greg developed a passion for Pastizzies---the delectible little cheese and pea cakes that are so famous. He wanted to film their making so our driver, Alfred Muscat of Zarb Vehicles, suggested a spot.

We went to Mr. Maxims Ta' Giovani Pastizzeria and Pizza. There he spoke to Giovanni and off he went to film the cheese cakes being filmed. He also did a short piece on the selling of the products and we had some excellent takes.

We then went to the Inquisitors Palace where human atrocities in the name of religion occurred in many countries (Spanish Inquisition). I am not sure what happened here but I saw some of the cells that the "offenders" were kept in and it seemed rather macabre that humans should be jailed as such. One unfortunate lady called "Demech" was accused for being a witch----using witchcraft to achieve certain things. She confessed and was sentenced to a period of time on bread and water and house arrest, Now what made her confess is another story and I suspect that she was tortured into submission. The Inquisition does not have a good reputation in history. I sometimes wonder if the persons doing the inquisition were not the ones who should be tortured. I wonder how many lives were destroyed by these maniacs.

I am not anti-religious but I do believe that religion should not be used to satisfy some perverted moral sense. Alfred told us that on certain evenings one can hear the screams of the victims.

Anyhow, I was not comfortable there and Greg and I left. The next place we visited was The Pub (Ollie'sPub) again. We did some extra filming and had a pint before going off to Salvino's Restaurant not far from The Pub.

Here we had a great meal. Greg took the film while the Chef, Andrew Pace, cooked chicken breast stuffed with prawns, red hot peppers and figs, Served with a white barrel fermented from Camilleri Vineyards called Laurentin, the wine which had a butter, cream and citrus/vanilla bouquet came through with a palate of butter, citrus, tropical fruits and pears with a nutty finish.

The wine went exceptional with the meal and was enhanced by the serving of Prisilla Grixti, a vivacious young lady who not only was pretty but had a smile that was never ending. The meal was served and the match was obviously made in Heaven since the wine and food melded well.
The sauce had a creamy pepper/chicken nuance to it and went well with the buttery and cream of the wine. The stuffing added to the texture highlighting the citrus in the wine and since the wine had a bit of fig in it, that went well also. Keep in mind that the fig also toned down the harsh pepper. The meal was great.
Andrew also gave us a tiny bit of his rabbit which was great! Oh! So good! Finally came the dessert of a Creamy Sorbet with Basil. This time Andrew went over the top. The creamy texture of the sorbet was a nice match to the creamy butter of the Chardonnay and the citrus and tropical fruit added flavour to the herbal qualities of the basil while playing down the sweetness. A truly nice match and a remarkable example of how a dry white with a good butter/vanilla/fruit character can be a good venue for a good dessert.
That was the end of our formal shooting venue in Malta. It ended well.
Greg and I went to my good friend Lorry Farrugia's home for a Lampuka Dinner with all his family. That ended our visit to Malta in great style.
